Update on ABC Kids:

We had a wonderful morning Saturday with many of our Abana B’Umwami children!  It was a typical Saturday for them: singing, having Bible lessons, and receiving pictures of their sponsors.

 To those of you who sent pictures…thank you!  Let us tell you, your children’s faces lit up when they looked at your family photos!  The pictures were passed around from child to child—they were so eager to see you.  Please see below to find pictures of some of the children with your photos.

 For those who were not able to send a picture, please know that it is a simple but very meaningful gift to your child.  If you are able to get a photo to the ABC box (located at the Information Counter) before February 13 they can be delivered by the team coming out.  If that will not work for you, please feel free to e-mail a picture to either of us and we will print and deliver it to your child for you.

 Helen has informed us that we will be unable to visit the children in their homes.  Unfortunately, several families expected extra help after we had been to their homes this past summer.  “They see white skin, they see money,” Helen said.  We will now be limited to pre-arranged school visits.

 We now have 8 children attending secondary schools.  The process for attending secondary schools here is similar to that of universities at home.  All of the secondary schools are boarding schools, and students are accepted based on performance in primary school and a national exam…so you can imagine what an honor it is for these 8 children to be at that place in life!  They are only allowed visitors one Sunday a month, so we look forward to our time together.
