A Word from Nathan

Last week was tough. I was sick and I couldn't talk. The problem is that I was going to teach at this church in the local area. I couldn't speak, so I had to cancel. This week went a lot better. We had a meeting about the new fellowship for a high school ministry on Sundays as well. I went to a school and got a chance to teach there. Also, God opened the door to go back to that church and speak there as well. Love you guys God bless you. Thank you all for your concern. Email me anytime at Hey_pal@hotmail.com -Nathan

Prayer Requests:

* Please pray for the people of Rwanda as April is a time of mourning and remembrance of the 1994 Genocide. Many people suffer during this month. Also, the Government had even considered "canceling" Easter since it's supposed to be a time of mourning, not celebration.

* Please pray for Pastor Leonard's family. Also pray for his church as they have no pastor to to take over yet.

* Please continue to pray for the baby with the swollen head. He still has not improved.

* We currently have two children in ABC who need sponsors. If you are interested, please email Armida Corry: billarmida7777@aol.com

A Real Success Story: Jean Claude Manishimwe

Jean Claude was the first child sponsored in Abana B'Umwami.  In essence, he is the reason the foundation was started in the first place!  Pastor Francis had a burden for the needy children in his community, and so he decided to help this one boy.  From there, the program has grown into what it is today.

Jean Claude began school when he was 15 years old--he was enrolled in Primary 1 (first grade).  He is now, at age 20, in Primary 5.   Being so much older than the rest of the students in his class has at times been humiliating for him, but Jean Claude has managed to excel and has been ranked in the top three of his class every year.  He is an incredibly hard-working and dedicated student.

Pastor Francis congratulates Jean Claude on his impressive report card!

Pastor Leonard is Taken Home

We were saddened to hear of  the sudden passing of Pastor Leonard this weekend.  After 3 days of illness, he was taken home to be with the Lord.  The community is speculating that he was poisoned by local fishermen over a dispute they were having with him.  Pastor Leonard, who oversees the village church we visited a few weeks ago, leaves a wife and six children.  Please pray for them as they grieve and struggle to understand God's plan for their future.                                      Pastor Leonard and his wife

Our Week at a Glance

Since the children were taking their end of term exams all week we did not get to visit any schools.  We had a lot of fun, though when we hosted an American-style slumber party with Francis and Dorothy's kids this weekend!  We were excited to find a pizza place in town, so we loaded them up on junk food for the night--pizza, soda, candy...!  They loved it!

We also continued our English classes (where we are thrilled to see the amount of progress in our students) and enjoyed lots of visitors.
