A Word from Nathan

Last week was tough. I was sick and I couldn't talk. The problem is that I was going to teach at this church in the local area. I couldn't speak, so I had to cancel. This week went a lot better. We had a meeting about the new fellowship for a high school ministry on Sundays as well. I went to a school and got a chance to teach there. Also, God opened the door to go back to that church and speak there as well. Love you guys God bless you. Thank you all for your concern. Email me anytime at Hey_pal@hotmail.com -Nathan

Prayer Requests:

* Please continue to pray for the people of Rwanda this month.

* Please pray for Pastor Leonard's family. Also pray for his church as they have no pastor to to take over yet.

* Please continue to pray for the baby with the swollen head. He still has not improved.

 ABC Child Update--Mediatrice Mngabire

Although Mediatrice has both parents, the family is extremely poor.  They lack adequate shelter, food, and clothing.  Mediatrice is 9 years old but is extremely tiny for her age, which is likely due to her poor health and insufficient food throughout her life. Her responsibilities at home are enormous for such a young girl—she takes care of her 3 younger siblings in addition to doing most of the household chores.  Her mother just gave birth to a fifth child last week.

At our ABC day on Saturday Mediatrice was given a small gift.  Sadly, she did not even know how to open the box.  Though her facial expression never changed, we watched her eyes dance with anticipation.  Dorothy explained that Mediatrice’s life has been so difficult that she never really learned how to smile or laugh.

This past January Mediatrice enrolled in school for the first time!  Education is bringing her hope for breaking the circle of poverty.  Please pray for this little one, that the joy of the Lord would be her strength as she learns to manage responsibilities at home and school.

Other ABC News...

At Christmastime we were able to purchase a new mattress for each child—thanks to generous donations from sponsors and the body at CCLH.  Sadly, three of the mattresses were stolen the day they were dispersed to the children.  We were able to replace the mattresses this week, and the happy little ones took them home (with the help of older siblings, of course!).

Sarah has been struggling with her vision for several years.  Last year we were able to purchase glasses for her, which enabled her to do her schoolwork independently for the first time in a long while!  Recently, Sarah had been experiencing such severe headaches that they caused vomiting and nose bleeds.  We were able to take her to the optometrist again and found that her eyes have worsened.  The doctor gave her a new prescription.  Sarah now reports the headaches are gone.  God is good!

Our Week at a Glance

This week marked the official week of mourning and remembrance for the Genocide of 1994.  We were blessed that the power of Christ ruled in the hearts of the congregation here, and the Resurrection Sunday service was a time of celebrating God's power over death!

We enjoyed a quiet day--lunch with Francis & Dorothy and then friends visited us at our house in the early evening.

We only have 2 weeks of English class left, so we decided you should meet our students.  Click on the link below to see our students, as well as other pictures from our week.
