A Word from Nathan

Last week was tough. I was sick and I couldn't talk. The problem is that I was going to teach at this church in the local area. I couldn't speak, so I had to cancel. This week went a lot better. We had a meeting about the new fellowship for a high school ministry on Sundays as well. I went to a school and got a chance to teach there. Also, God opened the door to go back to that church and speak there as well. Love you guys God bless you. Thank you all for your concern. Email me anytime at Hey_pal@hotmail.com -Nathan

Prayer Requests:

* Please continue to pray for the people of Rwanda this month.

* Please pray for Pastor Leonard's family. Also pray for his church as they have no pastor to to take over yet.

* Please continue to pray for the baby with the swollen head. He still has not improved.

CCLH Homeschoolers make a dream come true!

At the end of last year, God put on the hearts of our homeschool families to do something for the Abana B'Umwami Foundation.  The children began recycling cans and glass to raise money for a special project in Rwanda.

Helen, a widow, is a mother to more than just her own five children.  She is one of our Child Development workers, and she knows every one of the 160 children by name, where they live, what school they attend, and what grade they're in.

After her husband died, Helen was left alone to support her family.  She saved enough money to open a small store which grew into a market.  After several years she decided to sell the business in order to buy a house.  "If we were going to be hungry, I wanted to be hungry in my own house.  At least we would always have shelter, " Helen said.   She bought a plot of land and began building a house in 2000, but did not have enough money to complete it.

The walls, tin roof, and front door were installed.  There is no electricity or running water, and the window openings were filled with mud bricks.  Every time it rains, the water comes through the spaces between the bricks, soaking the beds, destroying the dirt floors, and damaging the foundation.  A few weeks ago, thieves tried to break in to their home in  the middle of the night by removing some of the window bricks.  Helen called out to the Lord, and they left!  Needless to say, Helen did not sleep well after that.

God's perfect timing--that next morning we received the money that the homeschoolers had raised. The money was used to order the windows, curtains, and all the other necessary materials for installation. About two weeks later, everything was ready to be installed. Pastor Franics arranged for Helen to take us to a village in the Eastern Province where two of our ABC kids had moved to. It would be an all day journey which would allow enough time for the windows to be installed without Helen's knowledge.

She arrived home that evening to find the windows installed. She was overwhelmed by the blessing from the Lord. She was even more overwhelmed when she learned that it was the children in America who had raised the money for this.

Our Neighborhood Street Gang

Sifa, Jacqueline (ABC), Toto, Florence (ABC), Kado (ABC), Arnold, Jeanette (ABC) & Christian

One day we were walking home with a bag of bread (kind of like hot dog buns) and, as usual, all of our little street gang came running to hug us. We had 4 pieces of bread left, and noticed there were 8 of them, so we gave them the bread. Kado, the oldest boy, stood and broke each piece in half and passed them around. No one complained about wanting it first, no one said anything about one being smaller than another...they stood in silence, waiting for Kado to give them their half of a hot dog bun. Then their faces lit up. Yes, they were thrilled to have half of a plain hot dog bun! They all said thank you, and Florence even walked us home. Their faces say more than all of their "thank you's" ever could!

We hope you have Half a Hot Dog Bun Day--be blessed by the tiny gifts God gives you!
